The symbols A(#), F(#) and M(#) that are shown to the right of input fields in forms are used to indicate the number of potential matches (represented by the number shown in the parenthesis). The letters A, F and M represent ALL, FAVORITES and MOST RECENT.
- The Symbol A(#) - the letter A followed by some number in parenthesis - indicates that ALL items that may be entered into the field are available to be cycled through by using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
- The Symbol F(#) - the letter F followed by some number in parenthesis - indicates that the users Favorites are available to be cycled through by using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
- The Symbol M(#) - the letter M followed by some number in parenthesis - indicates that the Most Recent items used by the current user are available to be cycled through by using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
The number shown in the parenthesis indicates the number of items that can currently be cycled through using the arrow keys on the keyboard - and will change as you type characters into the field, narrowing results to items that begin with those characters.
The purpose of this is to make looking up codes, such as Clients and Matters, easier. For example, if you are in the Client field of a time entry and type in the letter "B", then the number shown in parenthesis will show the number of Clients that begin with the letter B. If you type in "Ber" then the number in parenthesis will show the number of items that begin with those 3 letters. At any time, the user can use the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll through potential matches in order to select the appropriate item, but typically you will want to wait until the number in parenthesis is low enough to facilitate this type of selection.
Pressing CTRL + Space Bar while in the field will change the reference between the options: A(#) ALL items, M(#) Most Recent items and F(#) Favorite items – allowing the system to search all items, or only the most recently used items or items on the user’s favorites list.
