Time may be split at the time entry level, if desired. This is an alternative to the invoice-level splitting available during the Juris billing process.
To Split a Time Entry
- Enter the Time Entry details.
- Go to the Splits tab. If the splits tab is not enabled then you will need to save the entry first. (If you do not see the splits tab - then you may not have yet saved the entry, or you may not have been granted rights to access that information. See your system administrator.)
- In the Code field, select the Split Template you wish to use to split this entry. You may click the ellipse (lookup) button to view the Split Template details to assure you select the correct template.
- Once a Split template is selected, the following will occur:
- Description field will populate with the Description of the Split template.
- The Percent, Hours Worked, Hours Billed, Rate and Amount fields to the right will populate with the values to be used on the Original Entry based on the rules defined in the Split Template.
- The Spreadsheet will populate with the Split-To details as defined in the Split Template.
-
You may have the option (given rights to do so) to check the Edit Details box. This unlocks the Grid details and the Original Entry for editing, allowing you to change the details on the Original Entry or the Split-To entries on-the-fly.
Editing at this level is NOT changing the actual split template.
- Once you are satisfied with your selections, you may select the SPLIT button to perform the split. This will split the entries, creating new entries as defined on the Splits tab. If you do not see the Split button, then you have not been given rights to split the entry.
- Once an entry is split, you cannot undo the actual split. You can delete the entries created from the split but cannot undo.
How do I split an item from the Grid view?
You must split items from the Editor slip form of the time entry. You cannot split an item from the list/Grid view. However, you can view impending splits from the list/grid view (i.e., entries that have had a split template assigned - but that have not yet had the split finalized). These entries show up in the Grid view with a + sign to the left, indicating that there are split details that may be viewed. Clicking the + will expand the split details below the original entry.
I selected a Split Template on an entry but the Description says No Split. Why?
That is because you are trying to split an entry that has already been split once before. A split entry cannot be split a second time.
