There are several ways to create a time entry in Juris Suite. You can create time entries from Grid View, the Time Entry Editor, Lists, the Calendar, or the New button on the Time ribbon.
For more information about how time entries move through the system, see Time Entry Workflow.
Use this article to create a time entry using any of the following methods:
After a time entry is complete, it is ready for submission. For more information, see Submit Entry.
Create a time entry in Grid View
Grid View lets you enter time directly in a spreadsheet-style list. The fields shown in this view are customizable. By creating a layout, you can define which fields appear and the order in which they are listed.
By default, the Time Entry List/Grid View includes a spreadsheet list at the top and an anchored Slip Form at the bottom. When you select an entry in the list, the information for that entry appears in the Time Entry form below.
The anchored Slip Form may be minimized. If it is not visible, drag the top edge of the form to make it larger.
You can also double-click a cell in Grid View to edit it without opening the time entry in form view.
To create a time entry in Grid View:
-
Click the Grid button on the Display tool ribbon.
-
Click inside the Quick Entry Layout and begin entering data.
Use the ellipses button in fields to select the appropriate data. As you become more familiar with codes, client numbers, and other values, you can enter them directly without looking them up.
- Enter time by typing values directly in the next blank row of the spreadsheet.
- If your firm uses Juris Text Codes, use Ctrl+Spacebar to expand text from a text code shortcut.
-
If you have the Editor function enabled, the fields populate automatically.
The fields in Grid View may not match the fields in the Editor. You may need to use the Column Chooser to add the columns needed to reflect the fields in the Editor.
- When you finish entering the necessary fields, the time entry is ready for submission. See Submit Entry for more information.

The Timekeeper field populates based on the user currently logged in to the system, unless that user is not a timekeeper. In that case, the Timekeeper field does not populate.
- Auto New: Auto-duplicates fields based on the last entry entered by that user. The fields that are duplicated depend on the auto-duplication settings selected by the user or administrator. To view Auto New settings, select Juris > My Settings > My Time > Auto New Settings.
- New with Timer: Starts time automatically when creating a new time entry.
-
Auto New with Timer: Auto-duplicates fields based on the last entry entered by that user. The timer also starts each time an entry is created.
